Firing and Working Notes

Firing Range:

1140°C to 1243°C (Cone 4 to Cone 6).

Suitable for stoneware clay.

Working Notes:

Although this glaze can be fired to Cone 6, we would recommend firing it to a maximum of Cone 5 to ensure that the glaze comes out
metallic and shiny.

For advice and tips on application with a brush-on, please refer to the article in our knowledge base. "Application with a Brush"

This glaze is considered by the manufacturer to be dinnerware safe, non-toxic and has the ACMI CL Seal. However it must be remembered that in the UK, the emphasis in law is to the ‘maker’ who takes responsibility for the food/dinner safety of a glazed or unglazed ceramic ware.

For further reading, please read our knowledge base article "Food Safety in Ceramics".

Health & Safety

Lead Free.

Refer to each SDS below for the individual hazards of each glaze.

General Advice:

When handled sensibly, a 'brush-on' glaze presents no serious health issues, but to be safe, do not ingest the liquid and avoid contact with your skin and eyes.

A powder or dried brush-on glaze presents a hazard. It may contain crystalline silica and other materials, which, when inhaled, can cause long-term damage to the lungs or other health problems. We suggest when working with powders or when cleaning, wear an FFP3/P3 mask and filter and use a wet sponge.

Obsessed with this glaze!

I absolutely love this glaze. With 3 coats it's a brilliant gold and with less coats it's gold with a black contrast in the low points. It can be tricky on texture sometimes but it gives so much depth. 3 layers fired to 1200 with a 20 minute soak and it's absolutely magnificent. It's super gold over buff clays and on black clays too. I sometimes wipe back areas to make some black to give an aged appearance. I honestly don't understand why it's got bad reviews as it's my most reliable glaze. Love love love

What a struggle to get this glaze to work. I mostly got blacks and pewters. Got it to work on stoneware bisque with 4 heavy layers and fired (electric kiln) to 1180. Also got it to work on previously glazed pieces with 4 layers and to the same temperature but it does run! The gold is dark, almost bronze

Very difficult to get right

I am relatively new to ceramics and glaze but thought that it would be fine to get the pre made glazes and get great results. It is not that simple! This glaze has turned out nearly black so I would recommend that if you are new the glazes maybe avoid this glaze.
The gold bits that are there are fab but I wish it was all over!
