The ‘Scarva Paper Clay range’ have proved popular with those who prefer making hand-built ceramics or sculptural forms. They are composed of a flax fibres which are all natural and will burn out when fired.
Firing Range
900°C - 1280°C (cone 010 to cone 9).
Performs best when fired between 1220°C to 1280°C (cone 6 to cone 9).
Working Notes
The flax fibres give the clay added strength, allowing you to make thinner, more exaggerated forms. The paper clay can even have a degree of translucency, for instance, the porcelain paper clay is often used to make votive candle holders as it will allow the light to show through.
It has great thermal properties too so it can survive other firing techniques such as salt glazing, reduction and even a little raku.
As the ingredients in the body of the clay are organic it will create smoke when being fired therefore, we do recommend you do have good ventilation.
Health & Safety
As the clay contains crystalline silica avoid inhaling dust from dried out clay. Wash hands after use and clean up using a damp sponge.
