Orton Cones are a ceramic aid that, when heated in a kiln, will bend. It will give a value of 'heat work', which is a calculation of both temperature and time. Built for cone 9.

Cone 9 temperatures are based on a kiln firing at 15°C, 60°C and 150°C degrees per hour when climbing at the last 100 degrees to the top (target) temperature.
• 15°C - 1224°C
• 60°C - 1260°C
• 150°C - 1280°C
These can be used in oxidisation (electric kilns) and in reduction with other fuelled kilns*.

*except between values of '010' to '3' as they contain iron oxide. Use iron-free ones for firings between this range.
Even after calling to check whether the cone would stick, I was told no it was made to stand alone etc. It stuck and took a huge chunk out of my shelf when I tried to remove it, I won't trust them again to be self supporting and will place them on a dish or similar
