The thinner may be needed if the lustre has dried with age, or with some lustre colours the addition of thinners is needed for the application.
Working Notes
To prevent overthinning a bottle of lustre, it would be sensible to mix a small amount of lustre and thinner independently on an artist pallet or a piece of glass. Use a soft-haired paintbrush or liner brush for application. Wares should be cleaned and dry before application. Brush evenly for best results, being careful not to overload with lustre. Allow the ware to dry completely before placing in the kiln.
To avoid disappointment, we do advise testing before applying to your final wares and use precision scales when thinning the solution for greater accuracy.
Health & Safety
Wear an FFP3/P3 mask when applying. Store bottles in a well-ventilated area, and we recommend that institutions or businesses purchase a specially designed fume cupboard which is lockable and fireproof.
