Epsom Salts will thicken, gel and suspend by electrostatically charging particles so that they attract each other more, hence flocculate. It will work best in slurries that have some clay content, but it will have some affect in others too.
Make a concentrate in hot water to the ratio of 30g to 100ml, but the amount sold is easily enough for the average jam jar with some left over. Having made your concentrate, use a small amount, a teaspoon or less to for a Litre of a dipping glaze (by example).
Keep container sealed.
Epsom Salts can be an irritant to the eye or be a mild irritant to the skin, please wear safety glasses, and gloves.
Do not use in the domestic environment and eat or drink in your workspace.
In keeping with our overall general advice, we suggest wearing full PPE when handling raw materials. This includes a mask, safety glasses, and gloves. We also suggest working in a well-ventilated area.
It is a sensible precaution for children not to work with raw materials.
