A clever powder addition to turn a stain into an underglaze
Underglaze frit - 100g
Method and Technical Info
If you have a stain but wish to use it as an underglaze then add 20% of the underglaze frit to the dry weight of powdered stain. Then mix the two amounts in a small container. Depending on choice of opaqueness of the end colour, dispense a small amount of the medium ‘pehatine’. We used a similar volume to stain/frit amount, and this produced a flat opaque colour.
We have only tested with the Vitraglaze mixing medium (pehatine) but our stains/frit ingredient worked brilliantly to make a wonderful creamy brush-on. It will work best on bisque but can also be used on greenware. However enjoyable the experience, don’t paint too thickly as this impedes the breathing of the clay.
