This is a pre-mixed, brush-on stoneware glaze which can be used to cover designs created with underglazes to give the surface an exciting crackly effect. This glaze has the perfect consistency for brushing, where 3 coats are needed, or the glaze can be watered down slightly to make it easier to dip or pour. Fire between Cone 4-6 (1141°c-1243°c).
The crackly effect will emerge when the piece has been removed from the kiln and allowed to cool down. A coloured dye can be rubbed into the surface once cooled down to emphasise the surface pattern.
The colour sample shows the result of applying 3 coats of this glaze to white stoneware and firing to Cone 5 in an oxidation atmosphere; different results should be expected in reduction and/or if using a different colour clay body.
Lead free and non-toxic. Crackle glazes are not dinnerware safe due to the possibility of bacteria growth in the cracks.
