Pehatine (Mixing Medium)

A premixed CMC/bentonite solution ready to be added to water for either changing a powdered glaze into a brush-on, to make a stain/underglaze paintable, or as an addition to slips/engobes and clay bodies. See link for mixing instructions and further information.

We advise when making a brush-on, the recommended ratio of 1kg of powder to 500ml of Pehatine and 1 litre of water, is better done in the first instance, as 1kg/250ml Pehatine and 500ml of water. Then mix it well. This leaves you the option to add more water, but if the original amounts are followed, you may end up with a liquid that is too thin and you would be unable to reduce the water content.

The liquid contains a biocide that might prove an irritation to some. Wear, gloves and glasses at the very least.

Do not use in a domestic environment and do not eat or drink in your workspace.

In keeping with our overall general advice, we suggest wearing full PPE when handling raw materials. This includes a mask, safety
glasses, and gloves. We also suggest working in a well ventilated area.

It is a sensible precaution for children not to work with raw materials
