Barium carbonate can be used as a flux at high temperatures, it can create a satin surface at high temperatures and at low temperatures it may make a glaze matt.

Health & Safety

Barium carbonate is toxic if swallowed. Wear a mask, gloves and glasses. Do not use in a domestic environment. Do not eat or drink in your workspace. Keep working areas free of dust by cleaning up with a damp sponge.

In keeping with our overall general advice, we suggest wearing full PPE when handling any of our raw materials. This includes a FFP3/P3 mask, safety glasses, and gloves. We also suggest working in a well-ventilated area.

It is a sensible precaution for children not to work with raw materials.
