Suitable for stoneware clay.

Working Notes:

  • This glaze creates a range of effects and mottled colours on the surface.
  • As the black crystals melt, bursts of blues and browns appear.
  • Mayco tip: Green Tea (SW-108) is the base glaze, for a lighter crystal effect try applying two applications of Green Tea followed by a third application of Aurora Green.
  • Glaze may run, stilts or shelf protection may be needed.

Refer to Mayco to see more pictures and advice of this glaze on many clay bodies in various firing environments.

For advice and tips on application with a brush-on, please refer to the article in our knowledge base. "Application with a Brush"

This glaze is considered by the manufacturer to be dinnerware safe, non-toxic and has the ACMI CL Seal. However it must be remembered that in the UK, the emphasis in law is to the ‘maker’ who takes responsibility for the food/dinner safety of a glazed or unglazed ceramic ware.

For further reading, please read our knowledge base article "Food Safety in Ceramics".

Health & Safety

Lead Free.

Refer to each SDS below for the individual hazards of each glaze.

General Advice:

When handled sensibly, a 'brush-on' glaze presents no serious health issues, but to be safe, do not ingest the liquid and avoid contact with your skin and eyes.

A powder or dried brush-on glaze presents a hazard. It may contain crystalline silica and other materials, which, when inhaled, can cause long-term damage to the lungs or other health problems. We suggest when working with powders or when cleaning, wear an FFP3/P3 mask and filter and use a wet sponge.
