Product Information

Size: 250ml

A traditional deflocculant, often used with soda ash.
Mixing amounts vary, but a general guide is to make a small, diluted amount of sodium silicate to water, 1 to 4 (water) and then use this as a tiny splash which will be anything from .05% to .3% of the dry weight of clay, usually with a similar amount of soda ash.

We have not tested this deflocculant with our own powdered casting slips but as a general guide, use 140’s for stoneware, 100’s for earthenware and 75’s for bone china. However, this can vary due to the plasticity and contents of your clay body.

Health & Safety

Sodium silicate is an irritant to the skin and will damage the eye, wear protective clothing, gloves and glasses at the very least.

Do not use in the domestic environment and eat or drink in your workspace.

In keeping with our overall general advice, we suggest wearing full PPE when handling raw materials. This includes a mask, safety glasses, and gloves. We also suggest working in a well-ventilated area.
It is a sensible precaution for children not to work with raw materials.
