The history of Parian dates back to the 19th century in Staffordshire, England.

Companies such as Minton imitated the style of the statues and decorative reliefs found on Paros, a Greek Island.

Texture: Smooth.

Unfired characteristics: Very soft and plastic.

Fired colour: Satin white.

Shrinkage: 13% from wet to fired (to 1200°C).

Grog: 0%, 0 mm grain size

Firing Range

1220°C to 1240°C (cone 6)

Working Notes

A very smooth and creamy clay, almost like butter. It is not easy for beginners to use, so you might want to have some experience with other clays before throwing with this.

Health & Safety

As the clay contains crystalline silica, avoid inhaling the dust from dried-out clay. Wear an FFP3 mask, wash hands after use and clean up using a damp sponge. Dust off dirty clothes and aprons outside.
