This glaze could be potentially safe for dinner/tableware. To be certain, you would need to submit your wares for testing at a reputable laboratory. In the UK, the emphasis in law is to the ‘maker’ who takes responsibility for the food/dinner worthiness of a glazed or unglazed ceramic ware.

For further reading, please read our knowledge base article "Food Safety in Ceramics".

Health & Safety

Lead Free.

Refer to each SDS below for the individual hazards of each glaze.

General Advice:

When handled sensibly, a 'brush-on' glaze presents no serious health issues, but to be safe, do not ingest the liquid and avoid contact with your skin and eyes.

A powder or dried brush-on glaze presents a hazard. It may contain crystalline silica and other materials, which, when inhaled, can cause long-term damage to the lungs or other health problems. We suggest when working with powders or when cleaning, wear an FFP3/P3 mask and filter and use a wet sponge.

Different than the picture, but beautiful

If you’re expecting the glaze to turn out like the picture, it won’t. It comes out brownier with darker and lighter patches, but I think it’s beautiful and one of my favourite glazes!

Disappointed

Very inconsistent, glazed 2 items with 2 coats on each. 1 came out almost black and the other was closer to the advertised colour but showed brush markers. Smudges and transfers very easily once dried. Application is very smooth though.

Good colour

I find this comes out darker than it looks online, covers well, doesn’t run, finish is smooth and glossy. I didn’t think it would be that useful but have found its great when gazing animal figures.
