  • This glaze fits well with all Vitraclay bodies and fires without flaws.
  • Opacity may develop if a transparent glaze becomes very thick.
  • Contains no zinc.

For advice and tips on application with a brush-on, please refer to the article in our knowledge base. "Application with a Brush".

For powdered glazes, please read the article "More About a Dipping Glaze".

This glaze could be potentially safe for dinner/tableware. To be certain, you would need to submit your wares for testing at a reputable laboratory. In the UK, the emphasis in law is to the ‘maker’ who takes responsibility for the food/dinner worthiness of a glazed or unglazed ceramic ware.

For further reading, please read our knowledge base article "Food Safety in Ceramics".

Health & Safety

Lead Free.

Refer to each SDS below for the individual hazards of each glaze.

General Advice:

When handled sensibly, a 'brush-on' glaze presents no serious health issues, but to be safe, do not ingest the liquid and avoid contact with your skin and eyes.

A powder or dried brush-on glaze presents a hazard. It may contain crystalline silica and other materials, which, when inhaled, can cause long-term damage to the lungs or other health problems. We suggest when working with powders or when cleaning, wear an FFP3/P3 mask and filter and use a wet sponge.

Follow the instructions!

I bought this because I've bought a lot of stuff from Hot Clay before and have enjoyed the products. I'm not sure how important it is that the product was designed for Vitraclays, but I wanted it for some porcelain jewellery, porcelain slipcast tiles and stoneware tiles, none of which were from Vitraclays in this case. However, the main point is that I wanted to fire to the same temp. that I had successfully used previously with a different brush on glaze that had just run out. ( 1210 with a ten minute soak). Unfortunately I neglected to read the bit on the side that said min. firing temp was from 1220. The results were thin, scratchy and patchy! But I don't blame the product and will hopefully get better results in future.

Really

The glaze is really good - my only gripe is they don't sell it as a dipping glaze (premade liquid) in 5 litre quantities they only go up to 500ml
