Firing Range:

981°C to 1077°C (Cone 06 to Cone 04).

Suitable for Earthenware clay.

Working Notes:

  • All of the Spectrum Low Stone (earthenware) glazes are compatible with each other, giving exciting effects when layered with a few coats of each glaze.

For advice and tips on application with a brush-on, please refer to the article in our knowledge base. "Application with a Brush".

For powdered glazes, please read the article "More About a Dipping Glaze".

This glaze is considered by the manufacturer to be Dinnerware safe and has the ACMI CL Seal. However it must be remembered that in the UK, the emphasis in law is to the ‘maker’ who takes responsibility for the food/dinner safety of a glazed or unglazed ceramic ware.

For further reading, please read our knowledge base article "Food Safety in Ceramics".

Health & Safety

Lead Free.

Refer to each SDS below for the individual hazards of each glaze.

General Advice:

When handled sensibly, a 'brush-on' glaze presents no serious health issues, but to be safe, do not ingest the liquid and avoid contact with your skin and eyes.

A powder or dried brush-on glaze presents a hazard. It may contain crystalline silica and other materials, which, when inhaled, can cause long-term damage to the lungs or other health problems. We suggest when working with powders or when cleaning, wear an FFP3/P3 mask and filter and use a wet sponge.

Unusual Copper Green Effect

This glaze has some really nice features depending on how many coats are applied to earthenware bisque. It does have a tendency to run and pool if applied too thickly to a vertical surface and on a horizontal surface, it has a lovely patina. I fired this at Cone 05 - 1031C with no hold and I can get consistent results.

Consistently beautiful results

Consistently beautiful results using spectrum old copper brush on glaze. Three coats applied to Vitraclay White Earthenware and fired to 04 with a 20 minute hold. Mixes well with Vitraglaze desert and mocha (photos attached). Would advise using kiln cookies, runs when applied thickly.
