For powdered glazes, please read the article "More About a Dipping Glaze".

This glaze could be potentially safe for dinner/tableware. To be certain, you would need to submit your wares for testing at a reputable laboratory. In the UK, the emphasis in law is to the ‘maker’ who takes responsibility for the food/dinner worthiness of a glazed or unglazed ceramic ware.

For further reading, please read our knowledge base article "Food Safety in Ceramics".

Health & Safety

Lead Free.

Refer to each SDS below for the individual hazards of each glaze.

General Advice:

When handled sensibly, a 'brush-on' glaze presents no serious health issues, but to be safe, do not ingest the liquid and avoid contact with your skin and eyes.

A powder or dried brush-on glaze presents a hazard. It may contain crystalline silica and other materials, which, when inhaled, can cause long-term damage to the lungs or other health problems. We suggest when working with powders or when cleaning, wear an FFP3/P3 mask and filter and use a wet sponge.

Love and hate relationship

This glaze is beautiful but I’ve had issues with it. Can be very patchy, gets pinholes easily (but that could be a kiln issue?). Overall it’s good just wish it was more consistent!

Almond milk glaze

Lovely results with this glaze, speckles in the stoneware come through nicely, colour has a hint of yellow tinge (2 coats)

Lovely glaze

Only used this once so far but it was easy to apply and the result was excellent.

Good

This has worked well with the white throwing clay. It goes on well and doesn’t run.

Consistent colour , lighter than expected, but contrasts well with other colours.

I've used both the powder and pre-mixed versions and both work consistently well. I use to contrast against darker colours and use buff and white stoneware clays. Photo shows white body with Almond Milk under Island Turquoise fired to 1250 in electric kiln.
