This glaze is considered by the manufacturer to be Dinnerware safe, non-toxic and has the ACMI AP Seal. However it must be remembered that in the UK, the emphasis in law is to the ‘maker’ who takes responsibility for the food/dinner safety of a glazed or unglazed ceramic ware.

For further reading, please read our knowledge base article "Food Safety in Ceramics".

Health & Safety

Lead Free.

Refer to each SDS below for the individual hazards of each glaze.

General Advice:

When handled sensibly, a 'brush-on' glaze presents no serious health issues, but to be safe, do not ingest the liquid and avoid contact with your skin and eyes.

A powder or dried brush-on glaze presents a hazard. It may contain crystalline silica and other materials, which, when inhaled, can cause long-term damage to the lungs or other health problems. We suggest when working with powders or when cleaning, wear an FFP3/P3 mask and filter and use a wet sponge.

more than 1 coat needed

I had read another site's review which stated that one coat was sufficient to get the desired effect, but that wasn't the case when I tried it. It applies easily and the coverage once fired was smooth and a nice colour, but it didn't have the nori effect (speckles of black) with just the one coat. The image is 1x nori green with about 1" of Spectrum pearl white on the rim (inside and outside) on Scarva Earthstone Original clay. Nice but not what I expected. I'll definitely try again with more coats.
