Denim Blue

Firing and Working Notes

Firing Range:

1222°C to 1280°C (Cone 6 to Cone 9).

The sample shows two applications on Vitraclay Studio Throwing Clay, fired to 1250°C.

Suitable for Stoneware clay.

Working Notes:

Apply two generous layers of your first glaze Reactive White and let this dry, this should take between 5 – 10 minutes and then apply two more layers of your second glaze Denim Blue.

Test on a sample piece before using on final wares. Protect your kiln and shelves, with batt wash and sacrificial dishes as fluxing may occur. Leave at least a 20mm gap between the glaze and the base to allow the glaze to run.

For advice and tips on application with a brush-on, please refer to the article in our knowledge base. "Application with a Brush".

For powdered glazes, please read the article "More About a Dipping Glaze".

These glazes used together would unlikely be to be safe for dinner/tableware. To be certain, you would need to submit your wares for testing at a reputable laboratory. In the UK, the emphasis in law is to the ‘maker’ who takes responsibility for the food/dinner safety of a glazed or unglazed ceramic ware.

Health & Safety

Vitraglaze is lead-free.

Good housekeeping is essential in any pottery studio to minimise inhalation of silica dust.

Always clean up with a damp sponge and if any dust is airborne, such as when mixing powder glazes, wear an FFP3/P3 mask and filter.
