Originally mined in Cornwall, the stone is a complicated mix of many ingredients. Its qualities have changed over the years, but it is known for being low in iron; therefore, white firing. It is still used as a secondary flux (used alongside other fluxing materials) in earthenware glazes, but in stoneware glazes, it can be an alternative to more common feldspars.
