Wax resist is an essential for any potter who uses glaze.

Use to coat the base of your pottery to prevent the bottom of your piece sticking to the kiln shelf during firing. The wax resists the glaze keeping the base safe, and burns away during firing.

Apply the wax to your piece with a brush or sponge and allow to dry completely before you begin glazing. To remove any unwanted wax re-fire it or heat it in a microwave for 5 minutes.

Wax resist is also great for creating a variety of designs on your pottery. Paint the wax on areas you want the glaze to avoid. Once the wax has burnt away in the kiln your patterns will be revealed. Experiment!
