Stainless steel Turning Tools are fantastic to use for shaping and texturing clay. With a rounded edge handle for  comfort and grip and a square profile.

Turning tools are used on greenware to create profiles and refine your wares. Centre your piece on the pottery wheel, you can use blobs of semi-wet clay to fix into place, or use the ‘giffing grip’ product to hold secure. Gently hold the tool next to the moving ware so it shaves the clay leaving the desired profile. After prolonged use of the tool you may need to sharpen the tool using a wet stone or abrasive block.

You can also use or experiment with a technique known as 'chattering', where you loosely hold your tool and allow it to 'bounce' or 'chatter' on your piece as it turns, creating different patterns.
